這本書主要是圖片和資料記錄下由Julien Levy在1935策劃的一個名為Documentary And Anti-Graphic Photographs的攝影展，當中包含三名年輕(當年)攝影師分別為Manuel Alvarez Bravo,Henri Cartier-Bresson,Walker Evans.
難得的是在三位攝影師已經成為了傳奇的今天，這個他們年輕時在合作的聯展竟然沒有什麼資料，書中交代了一些很有趣的小detail例如布列松所展出的照片都是由自已沖哂的，由此可以推翻一般人認為布列松一生從來’只拍照不放相’的說法。另外書中也包含了Julien Levy和攝影師們的書信和文件。
基本上就連攝影學術上也很少會出現的名詞”Anti-Graphic Photographs”，書中沒有詳細說明Anti-Graphic是什麼意思，看來Julien Levy是想以發問的形式去討論多於向人們解析到底什麼是Anti-Graphic Photographs。
‘What is an anti-graphic photographs? it is difficult to explain, because such a photograph represents the non-analyzable residuum after all the usually accepted criterions for good photography have been put aside. It is a photograph not necessarily possessing print quality , fine lighting, story or sentiment, tactile values or abstract aesthetics.’
